<p>A first-of-its kind biomethanation processing plant in the City has been set up for processing organic waste generated by bulk generators at Kannahalli. <br /><br />This is a small, yet significant step towards solving the City’s gargantuan waste problem. Set up by NobleExchange with the help of BBMP and BBHA (Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels Association), the plant has a capacity to process about 120 tonnes of wet waste per day. <br /><br />Gobind Srivatsa, vice-president of NobleExchange Environment Solutions, said, “We have tied up with 150 hotels and commercial establishments. The plant can process hotel/wet waste and convert food waste into methane, which is purified and bottled as compressed biogas (CBG), a renewable fuel. We have covered West Bangalore as of now and next, we are looking at Central and South Bengaluru.” <br /><br />The company said that while the land for setting up the plant has been provided by the State government, the BBHA (with 1,500 members) will provide food waste.</p>
