Over 150 students of Seshadripuram PU College on Sunday cleaned the Allalasandra lake at Yelahanka New Town.

They removed 30 truck loads of weeds and garbage from the waterbody during the four-hour activity.
The cleaning activity that started at 8 am, saw students joining hands with the local residents to take part in the drive, conducted as part of NSS activity. Yelahanka United Environment Association  (YUVA) members, who had worked in reviving this lake, also participated in large numbers.

YUVA members said that the lake which was earlier in a deteriorated state has been revived by citizens in the last 15 months. The members also added  that the lake has also resolved the groundwater depletion problem and low areas flooding issues during heavy rains.

YUVA Vice-president C N Chandru said that the association has been regularly carrying out the cleaning activities in the lake area and that it is the first time college students have taken part in the cleaning activity, on such a large scale.

Range Forest Officer Nizamuddin addressed the students and emphasised the importance of lakes and trees to them.

The students were led by Dr Subhash and Shanthaveerappa, NSS Co-ordinators of the College. Yelahanka MLA S R Vishwanath visited the lake.
