St Joseph's, Christ emerge champions

St Joseph’s Degree College and Christ College emerged champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively in the 3rd Hockey Karnataka inter-collegiate tournament in Bengaluru on Friday.

In the men’s final, NM Kariappa scored a brace (30th, 35th) to help St Joseph’s beat Al-Ameen Degree College 3-1.

Al-Ameen took the lead through Shashank in the 13th minute before Kariappa got into the scoring act.

In the women’s title clash, Christ College and Jyothi Nivas College played out a goalless draw. Christ were adjudged the winners as they had topped the round robin stage.

Results (all finals): Men: St Joseph’s Degree College: 3 (Abharan 19th, NM Kariappa 30th, 35th) bt Al-Ameen Degree College: 1 (Shashank K S 13th). Player of the tournament: Abharan (St Joseph’s Degree College).

Women: Christ College: 0 drew with Jyothi Nivas College: 0.

Semifinals (on Thursday): Men: St Joseph’s Degree College: 9 (NM Kariappa 1st, Dhanush 4th, 7th, 39th, Bopanna 16th, KP Somaiah 20th, 56th, Somanna KP 47th, Abharan 56th) bt Al-Ameen PU College: 0.

Al-Ameen Degree College: 2 (Shashank 7th, Anjaneya 10th) drew Surana Degree College: 2 (Nachappa KV 16th, Machiah PA 22nd).
