Rally drives home 'Give it up' message on LPG subsidy

A ‘Give it up’ rally was taken out in the City on Thursday, to create awareness among the people about giving up LPG subsidy. HPCL officials, LPG distributors and their staff participated.

As per statistics, 4,93,833 consumers of HPCL have already given up subsidy, which includes 28,291 from Karnataka. A total of 15,68,614 LPG consumers have already given up subsidy and one crore consumers are expected to voluntarily do so this year.

The burden on the government on account of LPG subsidy in the last fiscal was more than Rs 40,000 crore. 

Officials from other oil marketing companies like Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum and other dignitaries were present in the rally. The rally was flagged of by Tallam Dwarakanath, president of FKCCI, at Town Hall in the morning. Dwarakanath appealed to the citizens of  the City who can afford to give up subsidy to do so, as it can benefit the underprivileged and the poor. 

The rally passed through KG Road, Palace Road and ended at Freedom Park. During the rally, ‘Give it up’ forms and brochures were distributed.

Officials of HPCL said that the names of those who give up subsidy will be displayed in the scroll of honour list. Consumers who have given up subsidy can see their names on the website: mylpg.in.
