With only a few days left for the monsoon session to close, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu refuted the allegation that the government did not take necessary initiatives to resolve the stalemate in Parliament.

He said in the Lok Sabha that he spoke to senior Congress leaders, urging them to meet the Lok Sabha Speaker for ending the suspension of 25 Congress MPs.

“They raised an issue. I politely responded to them by saying that government is also keen that the members, who have been suspended, has to come back to the House. But, the only way is at least some of them should meet the Speaker. They should assure the Speaker that they will cooperate in the proper conduct of the House,” Naidu said on the floor of the House.

The minister’s remark came as members of Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Left parties raised the issue of suspension of Congress MPs soon after the Lok Sabha assembled for the day.

“It is a threat to democracy. Their (Congress members) suspension must be withdrawn,” RJD MP Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav told Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
