Bank manager, his deputy siphon off Rs 1.5 crore

Police in Suryapet in Nalgonda district of Telangana on Thursday seized Rs 1.5 crore in cash belonging to the Lingadagudi Road branch of ICICI Bank here that was reportedly siphoned off by the manager and assistant manager of the branch.

Vijaysarathi, manager of the branch, and his deputy Sachin Patil are absconding. During a routine check, the Suryapet police found Rs 1.5 crore in cash in a car. They confiscated it and informed the Vijayapura police, said Superintendent of Police D Prakash.

“On Wednesday, the suspects took Rs 1.5 crore from the cashier telling him that they have to deposit the same into an account of a different bank by 2 pm.

The said amount was not credited into any account. The fraud came to light after the staff enquired with the headoffice,” the SP said.

The SP told reporters that a special team would be sent to Telangana to nab the suspects.
