At least 22 people were killed in a suicide car bombing in Afghanistan, an official said on Sunday.

The blast took place late on Saturday in Kunduz province.

"At least 19 pro-government militiamen and three civilians died when a militant struck a gathering with a car bomb in Khan Abad district late Saturday evening," Xinhua quoted district governor Hayyatullah Amiri as saying.

A pro-government leader Abdul Qadir was among the killed, the official said.
The Taliban militant group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
