Man stabs wife, tries to kill himself

A man stabbed his wife and turned the knife on himself  in an attempt to commit suicide over a domestic issue at his house near Kodihalli in Jeevanbima Nagar on Thursday noon.

Smitha Das (37), who suffered injuries in the attack, was rushed to Manipal Hospital. She is out of danger, said the police.

Arbindo Chakravarthi, 46, who stabbed Smitha was also treated for injuries and he too is out of danger, added the police. Arbindo and Smitha stay at Kalpana Paradise Apartment, 9th cross, Kodihalli, HAL 2nd Stage. Arbindo works with Thomson Reuters.

The couple hail from Kolkatta and were married around 10 years ago. They have an eight-year-old child studying in Class II.

On Thursday afternoon, they got into a heated argument and in a fit of rage,  Chakravarthi took a knife and stabbed Smitha in her abdomen. Looking at Das, who was bleeding profusely, Chakravarthi stabbed himself in the abdomen, said the police.

Hearing the commotion, the neighbours rushed to check on them. They informed the police and shifted the couple to a nearby hospital.

They are out of danger and are being treated in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The parents of the couple were informed and are coming down to the City, added the police.
Jeevanbima Nagar police have registered a case and investigations are on.
