Remount and Veterinary Corps (RVC) team defeated hosts ASC Riding and Polo Academy (ARPA) 9-4.5 in the four-goal ARPA tournament on the opening day of the Bangalore Polo Season at Agram Ground here on Thursday.

ARPA, who had a team handicap of minus four, went into the match with a 4.5 goal of handicap advantage as their opponents RVC had a superior handicap of three.

In addition to this, ARPA had home advantage which ensured that the horses were familiar with the ground conditions, an aspect that is required for efficiency in the sport.

But the hosts failed to capitalise on their advantages as RVC dominated the proceedings.

RVC had erased ARPA’s advantage in the first chukker as they sped to a 5-0 lead thanks to two goals each from Dfr Vijay Singh and Dfr Rambir Singh while Swr Ram Singh scored one.

The game was put to rest in the second and third chukkers as Dfr Ilyas got himself on the scoresheet twice and Vijay Singh followed suit and took his tally for the game to four goals.

ARPA defended resolutely in the final chukker, which ended goalless, as they thwarted all of RVC’s attempts, but it was too late and too little.
