The protesters claimed that a doctor and a staff nurse injected the woman with medicines that caused serious complications. Within hours, the pregnant woman was forced to go to another hospital, Vani Vilas where she delivered a still-born baby. Later, she underwent a surgery for the removal of her uterus.

In an attempt to hush up the case, senior BBMP officers are learnt to have sacked senior staff nurse, Kali Arase, source said. When Deccan Herald contacted Dr Shobha, the doctor in charge of BBMP hospital, said: “On Republic Day, Meena, a patient, was admitted to our hospital. Since it was a holiday…” And the doctor quickly hung the phone. When DH called her again, she said: “Please call my senior Dr Gayatri.”

Dr Gayatri summed up the episode thus: “By 4.30 pm, Meena was admitted and the staff nurse failed to inform the duty doctor. Within two hours, she was referred to Vani Vilas hospital and now, we have taken action and suspended the senior staff nurse.”
Meanwhile, Meena's husband Subramani is inconsolable after learning that the still-born baby was a boy and that his wife can't conceive anymore.
