Bearys' forum honours 9 toppers of PU exams

“Education is the only way to reach respectable position in society,” said Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader.

“In the path of success, however, don’t forget the sacrifice of your parents and never let them shed tears,” he advised students, delivering the inaugural address at scholarships and wheelchair distribution programme organised by Bearys’ Cultural Forum (BCF) in the City on Sunday.

“Scholarships always motivate talent to move ahead. Yet, students should have emotional quotient (EQ) and spiritual quotient (SQ) along with intelligence quotient (IQ),” opined the minister.

Parliamentarian Nalin Kumar Kateel hailed members of United Arab Emirates-based organisation who have been working for the people in their motherland. “Recognising talent and motivating it and giving assistance to the disabled had been the dream of former President of India, Late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The beneficiary students would also become donors in the future,” he said.

A guidance symposium was organised in the morning as part of the programme.The BCF distributed scholarships of Rs 20 lakh to 600 students between pre-university college and post-graduation. The forum also honoured nine students who had achieved first and second places in the Pre-university Board examinations. Meghana Achar of St Aloysius PU College was first and Lavanya M K of SDM PU College second in the Arts section.

In Science, Vandana M of Alva’s PU College, Monish Uthappa of Alva’s PU College and Prajval Sukhe Muniswamy of Alva’s PU College (all first) and Akshay Kumar of Alva’s PU College and Shivani Poovaiah of Expert PU College (second); in Commerce, Rashmitha of Sharada PU College (first) and Asmakhan of St Aloysius PU College (second) were all honoured on the occasion.

Around 53 physically challenged people from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts given wheelchairs. The ‘Star of Bearys 2015’ award was conferred on K S Sayeed Karnire, chairperson of the Expertise Industrial Services. CSR special awards were conferred to Hassan Darvesh, chairperson of Darvesh Group and ambassador of BCF, and S M Sharief, chairperson of the Kushi Group of Companies (UAE). The BCF was honoured with the Bappa Beary Award on the occasion.
