Now, TN rolls out Amma health schemes

Plan on to set up laboratory to diagnose inherited disorders

The AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday announced a series of ‘Amma’ health schemes, including the ‘Amma Women Special Master Health Check-up’ and ‘Amma Magapperu Sanjeevi’ for women.

The latter contains a pack of 11 Siddha medicines to treat expecting mothers.Two other health schemes, the ‘Amma Master Health Check-up’ and ‘Amma Health Scheme’, were also announced by Chief Minister J Jayalalitha in the Assembly, besides the plan for setting up a laboratory to diagnose inherited disorders.

The chief minister, making a statement under Rule 110 in the Assembly, announced a total of 22 schemes worth over Rs 700 crore for the well-being of the people of the state.

Pointing out that private hospitals charge between Rs 5,000-12,000 for master health check-ups, Jayalalitha  said the ‘Amma Master Health Check-up’ scheme would be launched at government general hospitals across the state  at a nominal cost as a model scheme for those who can not afford expensive treatment.

Speaking on the ‘Amma Women Special Master Health Check-up’ scheme, Jayalalitha said apart from the routine tests, it would also cover tests like pap smear, digital mammogram, parathyroid hormone tests and others at a moderate price.
