Consumer court orders refund from company

The Kodagu district Consumer Redressal Forum has ordered a shopkeeper to refund an amount of Rs 1,100 along with a compensation of Rs 2,000 to a customer.

M R Thammaiah, a resident of Hebbatageri village, had purchased a battery for a mobile phone of the Samsung company from Maruthi Electronics in Kushalnagar, paying an amount of Rs 1,100. as the battery did not function properly, he asked the shopkeeper for a replacement, but was denied one.

A disappointed Thammaiah submitted a complaint to the district Consumer Redressal Forum, in Madikeri. After hearing the case, a chair comprising of the Forum president V A Patil and members K D Parvathi and M S Latha ordered the shopowner to refund the amount of Rs 1,100, along with a compensation of Rs 2,000.

In another incident, Geethanjali and Lokesh, residents of Somwarpet, had invested in PACL company. In spite of lapse of the date of maturity, however, the company did not pay the amount to the customers, who then complained to the Forum.

After the hearing, the chair issued a notice to the company, which has now paid the maturity amount of Rs 26,978, and a compensation of Rs 27,216 to the customers.
