Dy CM slams lax officials for not hiring teachers

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday ordered issuing a show cause notice to an official in the Technical Education Department for delay in hiring teachers for a government polytechnic in south Delhi.

The minister issued the direction during a surprise visit to the directorate of training and technical education where he found that a file for filling 18 teaching vacancies in the G B Pant Polytechnic in Okhla had not been processed for the past many months.

“The polytechnic which has 500 students is functioning with just two teachers. There is a vacancy of 18 teachers but the process has not been initiated to hire new people,” Sisodia said.

The minister visited the polytechnic on Thursday and during interaction with students, realised that the labs in the polytechnic had been defunct due to poor upkeep.

“Either officials in the directorate are not aware that labs in polytechnics or the Industrial Training Institutes have been reduced to dump yards or they are deliberately not doing anything to improve the situation,” Sisodia said.
