The first earthquake measuring 2.9 on Richter scale occurred at 8.30 pm, while another quake measuring 3.10 on Richter scale occurred at 10.10pm, said Assistant Commissioner Y S Patil.
As a precautionary measure, stone crushers in Kalagurki have been stopped from working. The region which is known to have witnessed three earthquakes in a single day, is 25 km from Alamatti Dam and the scientific reasons for the earthquake are yet to be known, he added.
Patil added he had visited the villages and there was no loss of life. He has urged the people to contact phone numbers 100, 101, 108 in case of emergency.
