Last Updated 11 September 2015, 19:13 IST

Protesting against non-regularization of the services, around 200 jawans of the Home Guards from the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan have sought permission to commit suicide from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The jawans have been protesting for long but, the state government has taken no step in this direction.

Home Guard Jawans informed that they have written letters with their blood to the prime minister and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to seek permission to commit suicide.

Grave danger

“We are deployed in all kind of emergency situations like flood, earthquake, law and order related problems and even during elections. But we are not the regular employees of state or Central government. Even the Rajasthan High Court has directed the state government to pay us at par with police constable but no action has been taken,” said J S Rathore, state president Home Guards.

So we have sought permission to commit suicide from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added.

Rathore said a Home Guard gets Rs 350 per day. In a year, a Jawan of Home Guard gets work for 5-6 months only and remains unemployed for rest of the months.

Similar letters have been reportedly written from Home Guards in the Barmer district of Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, a day before, the Rajasthan High Court had directed the state Home Department to consider the demand of the Home Guards. The court said the government may agree on the Home Guards demands of giving them minimum pay scale prescribed for the police constables, without any allowances.
