RSS targets Ansari over Muslim quota

Last Updated 15 September 2015, 19:11 IST

Targetting  Vice President Hamid Ansari over his recent speech on the need for “affirmative action” for Muslim empowerment, the RSS has accused him of speaking like a “communal Muslim leader”.

An article published in the latest edition of RSS mouthpiece ‘Panchjanya’ said Ansari overlooked core issues, like lack of education, plaguing the minority community only to project it as a victim of discrimination.

Ansari, said the article, should “tell them the truth about how Muslim radicalism is preventing them from integrating with the society”.

“There was much dejection in the much-talked speech by Hamid Ansari at the All-India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, as it comes across as one made by a communal Muslim leader.

The Vice President is expected not to talk preferentially of one community but to speak of benefits for all. But these elements are missing from his speech," the article said.

It also claimed that though the Constitution does not provide for reservation on the basis of religion, the Vice President’s speech gave an impression as if he was arguing for quota benefits to Muslims.

It added that Ansari’s speech “doesn't reflect any sense of self introspection”.
