Missing 16-year-old found dead in drain

Last Updated 13 October 2015, 02:25 IST

A 16-year-old boy missing since Sunday evening was found dead in a drain on Monday.

After an initial probe, police suspect that he took the extreme step as he was depressed over his parents’ regular arguments at home. No suicide note was recovered, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Ravish who lived with his family at JJ Cluster in Baba Ram Dev Ka Dera in Rajokri. He was a class-9 student at a nearby government school.
Police said Ravish had left his house on Sunday evening but did not return till late night.

His parents tried to contact him on two mobile phones, but both were found switched off. They than contacted his friends, but none of them was aware of his whereabouts. Police were also informed.

“Ravish’s body was fished out from a nearby drain on Monday but there were no visible injury marks,” a police officer said. This was done after a call was made to the police control room reporting a body floating in the drain at 11.30 am. The body was identified by Ravish’s parents after which it was preserved for a post-mortem at AIIMS.

The questioning of Ravish’s family members and neighbours has revealed that it was very upsetting for him to see his parents arguing.

“Ravish had also told his father that he was depressed due to the arguments. We suspect that he committed suicide by jumping into the drain,” the officer added. His father Budhram is a driver.

A team from Vasant Kunj South police station is investigating the matter from all angles. “We will continue to question his family and friends to ascertain if any other motive could be behind the death,” the officer said.

Ravish’s body will be handed over to family after the autopsy on Tuesday.
