Employee hangs himself inside bank

A ‘D’ group employee of Union Bank of India committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan inside the bank on Kasturba Road in Cubbon Park police station limits on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Suresh (42), a sweeper. On Friday, he came to work and cleaned the bank premises. Later in the evening, he told the security guard that he would be sleeping in the office.

On Saturday morning, the canteen employees, who happened to look through the window, noticed Suresh’s body hanging from the ceiling. They alerted the guard and informed the police, who rushed to the spot and shifted the body for postmortem, said the police.

When the police contacted the family members, they were told that Suresh would come home drunk every night.

His wife used to fight with him over the issue and tried to persuade him to quit drinking, but in vain. Suresh, who was upset over this, hung himself from the ceiling, added the police.

A case has been registered in Cubbon Park police station.
