Heaps of garbage dumped in and around the City, post Dasara festival will continue to be an eyesore for two more days.

“We are not short of staff. The contractors, according to the agreement, are bound to deploy additional employees, when the City generates excess garbage, especially during festive season,” said M R Venkatesh, BBMP Engineer-in-Chief.

According to Palike sources, it had cleared hundreds of tonnes of excess garbage dumped in important locations of the city on Tuesday and Wednesday.

There are around 3,000 Pourakarmikas (sanitation workers) in the Palike and the garbage contractors too have deployed additional force to clear the trash. In the last two days, we cleared garbage in important locations such as Majestic, KR Market, Yeshwantpur, KR Puram, Basavanagudi, Malleswaram, Ulsoor. Two more days will be required to rid the City of garbage, he said.

“All the garbage, collected from across the City, is distributed to processing units in Seegehalli, Kannahalli, Doddabidrakallu, Mavallipura, KCDC, Terra Firma, MGP and Subrayapalya,” he said and clarified that the two waste treatment sites located in Doddaballapur were not receiving garbage more than their capacity of 500 tonnes.

Venkatesh also hoped that the waste processing unit, which is ready in Chiknagamangala, can help in reducing the burden on other plants.
