Minister bats for Kannada in administration

District In-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai said, Kannada should be the administrative language of the government and that requires everyone’s commitment and willpower.

He was speaking after unfurling the flag at the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations at Nehru Maidan here on Sunday. He said, today globalisation, liberalisation and privatisation have become three important mantras. There also lies a responsibility on all of us to protect our language and culture.

Briefing on various projects implemented by the State government in the district, he said, Kandaya scheme has been implemented in the district successfully and 310 kandaya adalats have been held so far.

“Under Podi free villages campaign, survey of the 18 villages in the district has been completed in the first phase. In the district, 5,910 students have been given grants of Rs 264 lakh under Vidyasiri scheme while 8,350 kilo litre of diesel has been provided to 610 mechanised boats. Under Basava Vasati housing scheme, 4,078 beneficiaries have been selected for the year 2015-16 and the construction of 129 houses are under progress. Rs 30.13 lakh grants has been reserved for rural drinking water projects in the current year. MGNREGA Job cards have been distributed to 71,497 families. 4914 people  have been benefited by Janani Suraksha scheme and 8,491 have been benefited by Arogya Kavacha,” he stated.

“The administrative approval for the new district administration complex in Padil, at a budget of Rs 41 crore is given and the process of tender is under prgress.
Over 200 road development works have been taken up in five taluks of the district at a cost of Rs four crore and 96 lakh. Mini Vidhana Soudha is ready for inauguration in Mangaluru.  The first phase of the Shiradi Ghat road development has been carried out and 11.77 km road will be developed in the second phase,” he added.

Rajyotsava awards

District Rajyothsava awards were presented to S V Sampat Samrajya ( Agriculture), L Sulaiman Shah (Education), Corin A Rasquinha (Social Work), C H Pochanna Rai (Social work), Balakrishna Puttige (Journalism), D M Aslam (Sports), Dr Vishwanath Nayak P (Medicine), Judit M R Mascharanhas (Social work), Sharada Barkur(Music), Purandar P (Sports), Sannidhya Special School (social service), Gopadkar ( Education), Narayana P M (Social work), Sheena Parava (Folk), Diwakar Das (Art), Lokesh Suratkal (Journalism), Urban Pinto ( Social work), Santhosh Aithal ( Art and culture), Keshav Vittal (Photography), Thimmaiah (Art) and U H Khalid Ujire (Education). NCC Air Wing and Bharat Seva Dal (Girls) were awarded First and Second prizes for the best march pasts. Students presented cultural programmes on the occasion.


Member of Legislative Assembly, B A Mohiyuddin Bava, Member of Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P I Srividya, Mayor Jacinta Vijaya Alfred were present among others.
