Bengaluru is full of youngsters who are trying to make a mark in the world and the City has always provided them a platform for various education and career opportunities. But now these youngsters are taking things in their hand and finding innovative ways to give back to the society.

“Designing is my passion and I want to contribute to the betterment of society through this. So I thought I’d combine these two interests of mine. It’s been a year since I associated myself with ‘India Cares’. Previously, I had volunteered with ‘Make a Difference’,” says Pavan Deevi, a student.

“It’s no longer just about earning some cash, you have your whole life to do that. I want to use my skills for a good cause instead. Even if we get paid a nominal amount, I would be satisfied knowing that I’m making a difference” he adds.

Amidst their hectic college schedule, youngsters are taking time out to work with NGOs. According to them, working for a social cause acts as a stressbuster.

Koka Pavan, another designer, says, “I decided to work for AIESEC because I wanted to mould myself into this corporate world through designing and communication management and make a change. At times, you have to learn the tricks of the trade and then use that to make a change. If I don’t know how the system works, I can’t help those who are unaware of it as well.”

He further says, “Working for those who are less privileged than us gives me a kind of happiness that material things cannot give. I put my love for designing to good use by working for an NGO and I have never regretted the decision.” He also freelances and has plans for his own business.

A small initiative can bring about a big change. These youngsters utilise their time, energy and talent for a good cause instead of waiting for a diploma and doing a job just for materialistic gain.

The graphic designer says, “It gives me great joy to create things that can make a change in this world.”

Despite being caught up in their jobs, there are many busy corporates who make it a point to do something for the society. Pilith Pericho, a professional at Goldman Sachs, started ‘United Arms’ with his sister. “When I was in college itself, I used to involve myself in various social activities,” he says.

A unique project he had done along with his friends was ‘Car Wash for Charity’. “We wanted to raise funds in a fun way. So we washed cars over a few weekends. We started the project in my house and when we posted about it on Facebook, there were many who came forward and wanted to be a part of it,” he adds.

This motivated them further and on another day, they covered the areas of Kammanahalli and Kalyan Nagar and washed many cars and raised funds in the process.

One of the other projects they have done is ‘Make A Difference By Being You’, as part of which they interview people who are different and recognise their efforts. “We also donate to the underprivileged whenever we can and volunteer with other NGOs. After all, the motive is to give back to the society,” he sums up.
