Caretaker ties up elderly couple, robs house

A 28-year-old caretaker tied up an elderly couple he was working for and made away with gold ornaments from the house in HMT Layout in Vidyaranyapura on Wednesday.

According to the police, Anand, a native of Odisha, was working as a domestic help for  elderly couple-Srinivasan, 75 and Jayalaskhmi, 65. Since Srinivasan was suffering from Parkinson's disease, his son had employed Anand to take care of him about a month ago.

Anand noticed the place where the gold ornaments were kept in the house and hatched a plan to rob them. On Wednesday night, he tied up the elderly couple, gagged them, threatened them with dire consequences if they do not cooperate and fled with gold ornaments worth several lakhs of rupees.

The couple managed to untie themselves and inform their son, who went to the house and informed the police. A case has been registered at the Vidyaranyapura police station.

House burgled

Unidentified persons broke into a house in Whitefield and made away with cash and valuables. The theft occurred in the house of Thyagarajan, a businessman, who had locked his house and gone for a trip with his family members.

When he returned home on Wednesday night, he noticed that the lock on the main door had been broken. The family members went inside the house and found that the almirah in the bedroom was damaged and Rs 5 lakh cash and Rs 4 lakh worth of gold ornaments were missing. They informed the police, who visited the spot. A case has been registered at the Whitefield police station.
