The City police have arrested three persons on the charge of abducting a businessman over a financial dispute.

The arrested have been identified as Shaheed Ali, 23, a resident of Nanjegowda Street, Doddamavalli; Nawazullah Khan, 27 of Lakkasandra and Abdul Jaffar, 20, a resident of Someshwarnagar, Jayanagar 1st block.

The prime suspect Tauseef is still at large and the police are looking for him. Wasim, 23, a resident of Kolar, is into travels business. His father Fayaz Hidayatullah is a rice merchant and owed about Rs two lakh to the suspects, who are mostly scrap dealers. They were upset as they did not get their money on time, said the police.

The suspects came to know that Wasim would come near National Travels  office around 5.30 pm.

They waylaid Wasim at Siddaiah Circle and took him in their car. They drove him to one of the suspects’ house and kept him in their custody, said the police.

The trio made a girl contact Hidayatullah and demand ransom for the release of his son. They directed Hidayatullah to meet them in Bengaluru. He contacted the local police and informed them about the abduction.

“We received information from the local police and set out to rescue Wasim. Tauseef had actually spoken to Hidayatullah using the girl’s mobile phone. We traced the number and found that the call had originated from BTM Layout,” said a police inspector.

The police collected details about the girl and took her into custody. She narrated the incident and shared the address of the house where Wasim had been kept hostage. The police said they rescued Wasim from the said house.

“We arrested the three from a house in BTM Layout hours after the abduction on Friday evening and rescued Wasim. The suspects had neither injured nor assaulted him. The trio have been produced before the court,” said a senior police officer.

The preliminary inquiry revealed that business and financial issues led to the abduction. The suspects claimed that they did not intend to abduct him, but had taken him with them only to collect the money which his father owed to them, said the police.
