Software major Wipro Saturday announced realigning its global media and telecom business after its chief executive Ayan Mukerji resigned from the top post to pursue another career.

"The global media and telecom (GMT) business will have a new structure with its sub-vertical communication services providers carved out into a separate strategic business unit (communications) with vice president Anil Jain as its head," the IT major said in a statement here.

Jain will report to chief operating officer Abidali Neemuchwala.

The media vertical will have retail, consumer goods, transportation and government business to tap increasing synergies.

"The network equipment providers' vertical will be aligned with the manufacturing & hi-tech business unit to strengthen our position in this space," the statement noted.
Product engineering services business will also report to Neemuchwala.

As a veteran Wiproite, Mukherji played a major role in growing various businesses across geographies during his 28 years of association with the outsourcing major.

"We thanks Ayan for his contribution and wishes him best in his endeavours," the statement added.
