The ‘Kannada Rajyothsava and Khadyotsava Cultural Festival was celebrated by Bowring Institute premises. The event included a blend of cultural programmes and a  Karnataka cuisine festival.

Members and their families turned up in large numbers to witness the cultural extravaganza. The event began with ‘Dollu Kunitha’, a group of popular rural artistes who caught the imagination of the members with their varied drum beats performed in an acrobatic style.

The local band ‘Blue Boys Orchestra’ led by Joseph rendered a host of hit numbers from Kannada films. This was followed by ‘Googles Dance Troupe’ who thrilled the audience with their synchronised dancers.

There was also a comedy show by TV artiste Ravi Bhugendra. Popular mimicry artiste Mysore Ramesh impersonated the voices of political leaders of the state and leading film personalities, much to the delight of the audience. The programme culminated with a number from yesteryear Kannada movie ‘Sathya Harishchandra’.

Everyone also indulged in a variety of ‘Uttara Kannada Shaili’ vegetarian dishes like ‘jolada rotti’, ‘kadale chutney’, ‘hucchal chutney’, ‘badanekai ennigai’, ‘kadale usli’, ‘oggarane anna’ etc. The non- vegetarian ‘Mysore Kannada Shaili’ combo had items like ‘nati masala koli biriyani’, ‘koli saaru’, ‘bhootayi meenu’ and ‘raagi mudde’ for everyone to relish.
