A 25-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of two friends with a single bullet in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar last week. The accused Karan Singh is the cousin of one of the deceased.

The victims were having an argument when Karan was called there. Karan opened fire, killing them, police said on Saturday.

Tilak Vihar residents Deepak, 26, and Manoj, 25, were drug addicts. Manoj also had a criminal history. He was jailed for three months in a dacoity case and was released on bail last month.

“Karan was called by his cousin Deepak after he was involved in a scuffle with Manoj," said Veenu Bansal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East). The call data records of Deepak’s mobile phone reveals that he had called Karan before the murder at 10.30 pm.

Shot fired
Deepak was physically restraining Manoj when the shot was fired. The bullet first passed through Manoj’s chest before piercing Deepak’s. While Manoj died on the spot, Deepak succumbed to injuries at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.

According to Manoj’s brother Suraj, he was lured out of his house by four-five friends a couple of hours before the murders. “They drank together at a nearby park before they walked towards Deepak’s house,” said Suraj.

Police said the problem began when Deepak met the group near Tilak Vihar police post. “Deepak felt that Manoj’s behaviour had changed after his stay in jail. There was an argument between the duo, which led to a scuffle," said another police officer.

The scuffle was broken by other friends present there, who later left the duo alone. It was then that Deepak called Karan over phone. Karan, a resident of west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden, came with a loaded pistol to Deepak’s aid and began assaulting Manoj.

The assault soon turned into firing which turned fatal for both Manoj and Deepak.
