Paddy harvest festival celebrated at Kondevoor

A paddy harvest festival was celebrated at Kondevoor of Mangalpady panchayat. It was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) CPCRI Kasargod in collaboration with the Nityananda Yogashrama, Kondevoor.

Inaugurating the programme, AICRP (Palms), ICAR-CPCRI, Kasargod Project Coordinator Dr H P Maheswarappa lauded the efforts taken by the ashram in disseminating organic farming technologies by promoting safe food for healthy life. He said that KVK, ICAR-CPCRI, Kasaragod, has given importance to the organic cultivation through field level extension activities and frontline demonstrations in Kasaragod district and demonstrated organic cultivation of paddy in Kondevur, Uppala in Mangalpady panchayat.

He further said that the programme involves soil test based acidity and nutrient management, selection of varieties suitable for organic cultivation, mechanization to reduce the cost of cultivation, organic plant protection measures etc to create awareness among the farming community, he said.

Kondevoor Mutt Sri Yogananda Saraswathi Swamiji stressed on the importance of conserving the natural resources, ecology and environment for the well being of mankind. Kerala Agricultural University Assistant Professor Dr Vanaja T spoke on the importance of conservation of traditional varieties for promoting nutritional security.

Dr Manojkumar, Kasaragod Head, K V K , CPCRI, briefed about the frontline demonstration to the farmers. K V K Chief Technical Officer Dr S Leena was present.
Around 200 farmers attended the programme.
