A gang of 12 rowdies, which had killed a rival and wounded another last Monday, was chased down by the police before it could eliminate another adversary.

The ringleader is Jagadish alias Jagga, 34, while the rest are his associates. Jagadish runs an auto consultancy in Pattegarapalya and lives in Domlur in eastern Bengaluru and is said to be involved in a series of murders, attempts to murder and other crimes. His three brothers — Raja, Ravi Kumar and Thimmappa — are also history-sheeters. His associates too have criminal record, according to the Vijayanagar police.

On November 16, Jagadish killed his rival Dilip, a history-sheeter from Rajagopalanagar. The two were plotting to eliminate each other and Jagadish succeeded in it. Earlier that day, Dilip’s two associates — Kariya and Pradeep — had barged into Jagadish’s office, threatened his life and fled. Jagadish got to know from his associates that Akash, a rowdy-sheeter from Pattegarapalya, had tipped off Dilip about his movements. Jagadish decided to take revenge on Akash as well Dilip, said the police.

The gang happened to spot Akash around 8 pm near Jagadish’s office and attacked him with lethal weapons. But policemen on night patrol foiled their plan by rushing to the spot and taking Akash to a private hospital in Basaveshwaranagar.

Meantime, Jagadish learnt that Dilip was closeted with two of his associates, Madhu and Raghavendra, in Kempegowda Layout, Rajagopalanagar. He took his henchmen there in five cars and two motorbikes. The gang attacked them, killing Dilip and grievously wounding Madhu. Raghavendra managed to escape, the police said.

The police formed three teams to arrest Jagadish and his gang. They received a tip-off that he was plotting to kill another rival Kariya. In a quick operation, the police nabbed him and his associates at Kaveripura in Pete Chennappa Industrial Estate.

Other suspects were identified as Pradeep Kumar, 24, from Magadi taluk; Kishore, 23, from Pattegarapalya; Ravi Kumar, 28, from Kunigal taluk; Kumaresh, 28, from Vijayanagar; Kumar, 27, from Panchasheelanagar; Ramu, 26, from Kamakshipalya; Dinesh, 24, a native of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh; Vinod, 23, of Moodalapalya; Ranjith Rao, 26, from Vijayanagar; Sanjay, 20, and Shivakumar, 28, both from Kunigal. The police said they also seized five cars, two motorbikes and lethal weapons from them.
