Constitution Day  to be celebrated on November 26

The Narendra Modi Government has decided to observe November 26 as 'Constitution Day’. On the day in 1949, the Constitution was adopted and it came into force on January 26, 1950. A two-day special session of Parliament will be convened on November 26 and 27 to mark the occasion.


The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has decided to illuminate Parliament House Complex on the day.

The events form part of the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr B R Ambedkar. The anniversary will have year-long nationwide celebrations as a tribute to Ambedkar, the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of  the Constituent Assembly.

According to reports, the government has asked all the officials to read out the Preamble of the Constitution on November 26. Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is the nodal agency for celebrating Constitution Day.

A number of programmes have chalked out by other ministries and departments, which include reading out of the Preamble of the Constitution, discussion, essay and quiz competitions in schools and colleges.
