Constable injured in wild jumbo attack

A police constable, attached to the Yasalur police station in Sakleshpur had a narrow escape when attacked by a wild elephant near Kumbralli on Sunday night.

The constable, Altaf, was on his way home when he crossed paths with an elephant on the Shukravarasanthe and Kodlipet Road around 9 pm. Altaf stopped his bike when he saw the lone tusker, but the animal attacked him and he was thrown up in the air.

The tusker, which was moving towards him, escaped into a coffee plantation when it saw the light from an approaching autorickshaw. Altaf suffered fractures on his limbs and arms from the fall. The autorickshaw passengers rushed him to a hospital, said inspector B Manjaiah.
