Bicycle riders create awareness on Project Smart City

Mangaluru Bicycle Club (MBC) organised Smartcity Mangaluru Bicycle Ride here on Sunday.

The ride was from Mangaluru City Corporation to Tannirbhavi, covering a distance of 30 km.

It was flagged off by City Police Commissioner S Murugan. The objective of the ride was to create awareness on the project smart city Mangaluru and encourage citizens to contribute in their own way in achieving this mission.

“Infrastructure with cycling and pedestrian-friendly roads are some of the key criteria in the selection process of Smart Cities. We, as cyclists through this ride, would like to highlight to the authorities the need for safety of roads and cyclist/pedestrian-friendly traffic guidelines, which will ensure better participation by using environment-friendly mode of commutation by citizens,” the members of Mangaluru Bicycle Club said.

As many as 35 cyclists took part in the ride. The cyclists would also urge the administration to encourage educational institutions to promote cycling among students.

MBC founder Ganesh Nayak, cyclists Ashokawardhana, Kishan Bangera, Donald Menezes and others participated.
