A 22-year-old labourer has been arrested for killing a 10-year-old boy and sexually assaulting his teenaged cousin sister at their house in north Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar last month.

Raj Kumar was furious with the girl’s refusal to marry him, police said on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old girl’s younger brother was also in the house and escaped unhurt as he was sleeping.

Raj, who hails from Bihar’s Saharsa district, was absconding since the incident on November 14. During interrogation, Raj revealed that he planned to kill the girl as he was possessive about her.

“Meri nahi to kisi ki nahi,” Raj told the investigating team.

Raj sexually assaulted the girl. When her cousin brother came to her rescue, Raj attacked them with a rod because of which he died on the spot while girl was seriously injured.

Raj then fled to Kanpur.

The incident came to the fore when the girl’s brother woke up and saw her crying. He alerted their landlady as their parents were not at home.

When a police team went to the house, they found the girl bleeding and wrapped in a bedsheet. She was admitted to Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital.

“Raj worked as a labourer and had come to live with a family on November 2,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Vijay Singh.

Police teams were sent to Raj’s possible hideouts in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
His movement was finally tracked in Kanpur. In between, Raj had also called a friend in Delhi to inform that he was working in Delhi as a cement loading labourer.

After this, the police team at Kanpur was informed and they scanned cement godowns.

Nabbed in Kanpur
“A cement godown was spotted near Kanpur railway station where Raj was recognised by a head constable even when his face was covered with dust,” Singh added.

The girl’s parents wanted to get her married to Raj, but she was against any such move.
On the basis of the girl’s statement, a case under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code was registered with Swaroop Nagar police station.

Raj also faces charges under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
