A 27-year-old businessman was allegedly shot at and injured by his maternal uncle in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Tuesday night. The incident happened in a public park, police said.

The injured man has been identified as Lalit Singh, a resident of Malviya Nagar’s Sarvodaya Enclave and running his own business. A senior police officer said the injury was not anything serious and that the police were viewing his statements with suspicion.

A call to police had been made 11 pm on Tuesday. Some residents of Sarvodaya Enclave had emerged out of their homes on hearing gunshots. One of them subsequently made the call to police.

Hit in his left leg, Singh was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. “The complainant blamed his maternal uncle of firing at him after calling him to a local park for resolving the dispute,” said the officer.

The two are involved in a property dispute for several years, police said. Singh’s uncle was questioned in this connection, though he claimed innocence. “There appears to be certain discrepancies in the complainant’s version of the alleged incident. We are verifying the authenticity of his complaint,” the officer said.

CCTV cameras from the locality are being scanned for possible footage that could establish what exactly happened. Locals who rushed to the injured man’s aid too are being questioned.
