The High Court on Friday granted interim stay on the notification issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare which has introduced pictorial warnings on beedi packets.

The petitioners, Karnataka Beedi Industry Association have approached the court seeking quashing of the notification stating that the pictorial warnings cannot be introduced on beedi packets as the packaging is very small and warning cannot be incorporated.

Justice Anand Byrareddy granted interim stay on the notification and ordered issuance of notice to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Plea dismissed
The High Court has dismissed the petition filed by Karnataka Drugs and Manufacturers’ Association which had contended that Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation is not the competent authority to certify drugs that can be exported.

Justice Anand Byrareddy dismissed the petition stating that the petitioner’s apprehension cannot be considered on merit.
