Grand Konkani Showers 2015 tomorrow

The Grand Konkani Showers 2015, the 15th anniversary celebrations of St Mary’s Konkan Community (SMKC), Dubai, will be held at St Agnes Special School grounds in Mangaluru on December 6.

The popular 264th Wilfy Nite, a Konkani musical show, will be the highlight of the event.

Briefing media persons here, local coordinator Leslie Rego said Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, who has been a guiding spirit of SMKC, will preside over the celebrations. The entry is free.

The proceeds from the event will be utilised for the poorest of poor children where the Mangaluru diocese has set up a project. It will be also used for SMKC Dubai Education Trust Fund at Bishop’s House in Mangaluru to empower underprivileged families of rural areas by educating deserving candidates in professions, such as engineering, medicine and nursing.

It will also used to top up SMKC Dubai Health Care Fund at St Anne’s Friary, to provide medical assistance for low income families, he added.

He said that Wilfy Nite troupe will enthral and mesmerise the crowd with vibrant numbers such as ‘Roopa Roopa,’ ‘Nav Moogele Panduranga’ along with other popular peppy dance songs under the direction of Pappan/Joswin with 14 instrumentalists.

At the end, there will be ‘Baila medley’ with the interactive participation from the crowd. An attractive stage is being set up with latest lighting technology and a sound system of 40,000 watts. Ocean Kids finalists of India Got Talent contest will brighten up the stage with their performances. Comedy by ‘Memori and Dolla’ will provide entertainment, he said.

Rego said Jet Airways International air ticket between UAE and India, watches, perfumes, electronic items and gift hampers will be up for the grabs in the raffle draw at the venue. The raffle draw tickets can be obtained from St Anne’s Friary.

People have to jot down the name/ their mobile phone numbers and slip the raffle ticket through the box, he stated.

The SMKC awards will be conferred on Martin J Aranha, Managing Director/CEO of Globelink West Star Shipping LLC, Dubai; Joseph Mathias, MD of Merir Freight Systems Co, LLC and Harbour Shipping Company and Walter Nandalike, Founder Daijiworld Group of Media on the occasion.

He said that the ban clamped by the district administration for holding public meetings, processions and dharnas on December 6 will not be applicable to the programme.

The organisers have already taken permission from the deputy commissioner in this regard, he added.
