Six arrested for extortion

The Mico Layout police have arrested six persons who were trying to extort money from customers of a prostitution den in Sri Rama Layout on Friday. A pimp was also arrested.

The arrested are: Rudrajith, a resident of Kanakapura Road, Ravi Chandra of JP Nagar, Satish f Chikka Kammanahalli and Pratap, Jitendra and Muniyappa, all residents of Bannerghatta. They claimed to be members of Karnataka Kavalu Sene (KKS).

Their modus operandi was to gather information about places where prostitution was being carried out. They would visit such places and claim to be members of the KKS and that they represent media channels.

They would extort money from pimps and customers. If anyone failed to pay the money, they would be threatened that their activities would be filmed and aired on news channels. Their vehicles had ‘Press’ stickers on them, said the police.

On Friday night, the gang went to a house in Tavarekere and tried to use the same method. But, a person tipped off the police who went to the spot and arrested them. Also, three women, two from Kolkata and one from Chennai were rescued and the pimp, Harish, was arrested.

A week ago, the six of them had extorted around Rs 1.2 lakh from another prostitution den and a case had been  registered in JP Nagar police station. The Mico Layout police booked the six persons.
