Art meets fashion

Christmas and New Year are just around the corner and designer Nikhita Tandon has created a collection exclusively for the same. In an attempt to bridge the gap between art and fashion, the designer has taken inspiration from pop-artist Surita Tandon’s paintings to create her collection called ‘TwoXFaces’.

Keeping in mind the modern day woman who represents confidence and individuality, the designer has created a line of bold and quirky and ensembles that are inspired by Surita’s paintings that move between the territories of dominant culture, popular culture and sub-cultures. Pop Art fused with a reflection of extremely shiny, bright and vivacious forms, ‘TwoXFaces will showcase art and fashion at its finest.

Including jackets, jumpsuits, dresses and gowns, the collection is made matching to the paintings with black and white as the prominent colour.

“The collection has two sides to it. One face of it is thrown in the paintings which have the concept of black, white and the red colour popping out. The other is that of the ensemble, which have been created inspired by the paintings,” Nikhita Tandon tells Metrolife.

The collection includes fabrics like velvet, meant for the winter season. “During Christmas and New Year, apart from partying and celebrating, a lot of people also like to travel and go for holidays. So the collection caters to all these needs and is also very rich in fabric.”

She further explains the collection to be young and peppy. “Three outfits are in red and the others are in black and white. The collection reminds us of some fashion icons like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe,” adds Tandon.

A regular participant at fashion weeks, Tandon says that this is the first time she has worked with embellishments like embroideries, chains and metallic works. “Normally, my outfits are very cut-based and silhouette-based. I have never worked with so much embroidery and hence it was a different experimentation to work on this collection,” she tells Metrolife. TwoXFaces will be launched on Wednesday, December 9 at Indigo, One Golden Mile, from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
