Leader of Opposition in Assembly Jagadish Shettar has accused the State government of collecting funds for the Legislative Council polls, scheduled for Dec 27, from the government employees.

Shettar, speaking to reporters here on Friday, said, “Excise commissioner is holding a meeting attended by the district-level officers at Ruchi The Prince hotel on the outskirts of Mysuru. The meeting is being held at a private premises with a motive to collect money, at the behest of State government, for the elections.

The Excise officials have raised Rs 30 crore during the meeting. I am not sure whether the officials of other departments are involved in raising money.”

Shettar pressed the State Election Commissioner to take appropriate action against those involved in the wrongdoing.

Replying to a specific query, the former chief minister said that BJP would win at least 15 Council seats of the 20 local bodies constituencies.
