Owing ex-wife Rs 2 lakh, broke man hangs himself
A 31-year-old man, who was depressed over his mounting debts and divorce, reportedly hanged himself from the branch of a tree in Jayanagar 4th 'T' Block on Thursday night.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Shahul Hamid, who hailed from Davangere and had moved to Bengaluru four years ago. He had married his distant relative but the couple parted ways a year ago following disagreements. He owed his ex-wife Rs two lakh as compensation, said the police.

Hamid's mother and brother were staying with him at a rented house in Tilak Nagar after his divorce. On Thursday night, he told his mother and brother that he would visit a mosque to offer prayers and went outside. When he did not return home until late in the night, his family made repeated phone calls to him but his mobile phone was switched off, added the police.

On Friday morning, the police found a body hanging from the tree branch and informed Hamid's brother, who identified the body.

His mother told the police that Hamid was very depressed because he had borrowed money and was facing major financial problems. He was also unemployed and was looking for a job, said the police.
