On his 50th birthday, actor Salman Khan on Sunday said he will legally fight it out in the Supreme Court when the Maharashtra government challenges his acquittal by the Bombay High Court in the drunken-driving and hit-and-run case.

One person died and four others were injured in the 13-year-old case.
“Zindagi ladne ka naam hai (life is all about fighting),” was the reaction of Khan, when he spoke to mediapersons outside the family farmhouse at Panvel in Raigad district.

“They (Maharashtra government) have the right to go to the Supreme Court, when they go there, I will fight it out (legally),” Khan said. “It’s a huge burden off my parents’ shoulders... It’s the government’s right to appeal in the Supreme Court. We too will fight it in the Supreme Court.”

For fans
In what seems to be a message to his fans, he said: “jitna kam gam, utni zyada khushi (the less the sorrow, the more is happiness).”

Last week, the Maharashtra government had decided to appeal in the Supreme Court after due consultations with officers of Law and Judiciary department and home department.

Challenging the HC order
We have decided to challenge the Bombay High Court verdict in the Supreme Court,” Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters in Nagpur.

On May 6 this year, Additional Sessions Judge D W Despande had convicted Salman Khan under the grave charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sentenced him to undergo a rigorous imprisonment of five years. However, on December 10, Justice A R Joshi had reversed the order and has acquitted him of all charges.
