The State government will open 100 new Morarji Desai residential schools in Karnataka by June next year, Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya has said.

With this, every hobli in the State will have a residential school, he told reporters here on Tuesday. A hobli is a cluster of villages administered together for tax and land tenure purposes. The schools are being built on 10 acres of land at a cost of Rs 15 crore.

Morarji schools presently teach up to class 10. But 30 of them are now teaching up to class 12.

Thirty more institutions will shortly have classes till 12, he added. This apart, the government will open 200 new hostels across the State.

Anjaneya, who had welcomed the year 2015 by staying in a tribal hamlet, said he would usher in the New Year 2016 by staying in another tribal hamlet, in Haliyal taluk of Uttara Kannada district. By doing so, he said, he aims to understand the problems faced by tribal people.

He also mentioned that the government had released Rs 10 crore for the development of tribal hamlets in Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Mysuru, Chikkamagaluru and Uttara Kannada districts.
