Karnataka women enter pre-quarters

 Karnataka women entered the pre-quarterfinals of the 77th Senior National table tennis championships here, posting two victories in their group stage matches.

Karnataka, competing in Group G, defeated Chandigarh 3-0 and then blanked Andhra Pradesh by the same margin to progress into the last-16.

PSPB, West Bengal, Maharashtra A, Reserve Bank of India, Telangana and Tamil Nadu were the other teams to secure pre-quarterfinal berts as league matches continued at the Kotla Vijay Bhaskara Reddy Indoor Stadium.

Karnataka men, meanwhile, had mixed luck, defeating Tripura 3-0 before losing 0-3 to Rajasthan in Group F.

The men’s teams that have moved into the second stage knockout phase include Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), West Bengal, Gujarat, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB).

PSPB, on of the fancied teams in the tournament, scored two lop-sided wins, blanking Odisha and Maharashtra 3-0 respectively.
