An accountant, 59, working with the Ministry of AYUSH died in a road accident on Thursday morning when the scooter on which she was riding pillion with her husband collided with a private bus, which was recently given permit by the Delhi government since the implementation of odd-even scheme, near Nehru Place and subsequently got crushed under the bus’ tyres.

The incident happened around 10 am, when Chander Kocchar was going to her office situated at CGO Complex in New Delhi with her husband, a retired government employee.

“The couple was going towards Kalkaji on the Outer Ring Road, when they crossed the Paras cinema flyover and took a left turn, when a white-colored private bus of route no.375 hit their scooter from behind,” said a police officer.

“As the bus collided with the scooter, Kocchar, who was riding pillion, fell from the two-wheeler on the left side under the bus and subsequently got crushed by its rear wheels,’’ he added.

Kocchar died on the spot while her husband got multiple injuries in the accident. He was taken to the AIIMS Trauma centre where his condition is said to be stable.

Driver of the bus which was plying between Dilshad Garden and Nehru Place ran away from the spot immediately after the accident, leaving the bus and passengers behind.

“The bus was recently given permit to ply on the route after the implementation of the odd or even scheme in Delhi. We have the details of the driver and we are searching for him. The bus has been seized and a case has been registered at the Kalka Ji police station,” the police officer added.
