Rename road after Col Niranjan, seek residents

Last Updated 08 January 2016, 20:11 IST

Vidyaranyapura residents have urged the State government to rename the prominent Doddabommasandra Road after Lt Col Niranjan.

The demand comes in the wake of the recent killing of Col Niranjan in the Pathankot attack.

A petition in this regard has been put up on Change.org and the Aam Admi Party has taken up the cause along with the residents. The petition was published online on Thursday and within a day it garnered more than 3,100 supporters.

The petition has been given to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda and to BBMP Commissioner G Kumar Naik.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, AAP spokesperson Prithvi Reddy said the thought came after a candle-light vigil was taken up in the locality three days ago.

“The public sentiment and support was tremendous. This is not a demand of AAP. We are merely voicing the sentiment of the people.” There were more than thousand physical signatures in support of the cause, he said.

“We deemed it important to take up the cause because 65 per cent of Indians are below 35 years old. They need role models and real life heroes,” he said.
