As the BJP struggles to retain its alliance government in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress on Monday targeted Union Minister Nitin Gadkari alleging irregularities in awarding crucial tunnel road project in the northern state.
AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh released documents suggesting Road Transport Minister Gadkari’s links with IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd which won the contract to build the Rs 10,050 crore Zojila Pass tunnel project.
He said Gadkari favoured IRB because his son had served as a director of the road builder company’s board.
“The company does not have any high altitude tunnelling experience and still was awarded the contract,” Singh told reporters here. He also met the Central Vigilance Commissioner K V Chowdhary and demanded a probe into the matter.
