JOIN US'Rejig school, office timings to ease traffic woes'
Kannada actor V Ravichandran has suggested rejig in timings of schools, government offices and private companies to ease traffic during the peak hours.
Speaking at the valedictory function of the 27th National Road Safety Week - 2016 here on Saturday, Ravichandran said, “The school timings can be preponed by an hour so that the students can get back home by 1 pm. Also, the private companies and the government offices should rejig the shift timings. The companies can start working by 11 and the government offices from 9 am. By adopting these timings, the traffic congestion could be reduced,” he added.
“The people driving or riding should make sure that they follow the traffic rules and be responsible once they are on the road. Also, the traffic police, who have been carrying out drive against drunk driving, should continue the drive till people realise that driving under the influence of alcohol is a huge risk,” the actor-turned director said.
Commissioner of Road Safety and Transport Ramegowda, who was also present on the occasion, said, “The programme was successful and numerous awareness programmes were conducted to educate the public about road safety and traffic rules. Also, the Supreme Court has formed a committee, which will study on road safety measures and will suggest various methods to curb road accidents.”
Police inspectors Umadevi, (Banaswadi), Mohammed MA (Electronics City), Uma Mahesh (Jayanagar) and Rajesh (Devanahalli traffic police station) were awarded for carrying out best campaigns during the National Road Safety Week.
Prizes were distributed to the students, who had won in various competitions conducted by the Traffic police and Transport department as part of the National Road Safety Week. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, City Police Commissioner NS Megharikh among others were present.
