President of Kodava Samaja Moovera Shambu Subbaiah Adhikari has urged the deputy commissioner to provide alternative arrangements to those whose houses have been demolished at the Paisari land at Vidyanagar in Madikeri.

During a visit the spot, along with other representatives of the Samaja here on Monday, Adhikari said the houses at Vidyanagar should have been cleared after making proper housing arrangements for the people living there. But their houses have been demolished all of a sudden and the people are now in streets. The officials should stop harassing the poor, he said and urged the district administration to provide justice to the victims.

He said a piece of land near RTO building has been earmarked to provide alternative housing facilities. As this land is very far from the city, it would be suitable to provide them houses near Vidyanagar, he observed.

The victims include widows and patients. Their children are studying in their teachers’ houses. The district administration should provide all necessary arrangements to them. If not, the Samaja would launch an agitation, he said.

Members of the Samaja Kuttaiah, Belyappa, Kalmadanada Subbaiah, Rani Machaiah, Cheyanda Satya, Baby Chinnappa and Chovanda Kalappa were present.
