Rs 600-cr corn plant set up in Davangere

Karnataka has emerged as favourable destination for agri-business and food processing sector, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said.

Speaking after inaugurating Cargill Corn Wet Milling Plant at Bellodi village in Harihar taluk of Davangere district on Tuesday, the chief minister said that the State had maintained 28 per  cent growth in agri business and food processing sector in recent years.

“Promotion of food processing and agri-business help farmers in securing better price for their produce. Besides, these enterprises boost rural economy as 60 per cent of the population is in villages,” the chief minister said.

Cargill has established the milling unit with an initial investment of Rs 600 crore. The plant, set up on 45 acres, has the capacity to mill 800 tonnes of  corn daily, said Cargill India Asia Pacific Region Chief David Macline.
