A melange of colours

Folk festival

International Arts and Cultural Foundation will present an all-women world folk arts festival on January 23 and 24, 6 pm at Kalagrama, Nagarbhavi. Folk music and dances from different parts of India, Gulf, Egypt, Libya and Turkey will be presented.

The focus of the folk extravaganza is to initiate academic and scholarly discussions, celebrate cultural diversity and recognise women’s participation in the field of arts. The foundation will also collaborate with Maharani Lakshmi Ammani College for a workshop and demonstration on the folk forms of Karnataka. Live performances of traditional dance, drama and music recitals using webcast technology is one of the highlights during the festival.

Some of the troupes that will perform are Monisha dance troupe, Nadam dance ensemble and Nrityantar dance ensemble. This unique festival would also enable cultural exchanges between participating teams in future.

The festival was inaugurated by KA Dayananda, KAS Director, Department of Kannada and Culture and Lakshmi Gopala Swamy, an award-winning film star and classical dancer The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Department of Kannada and Culture and the South Zone Cultural Centre.
